Cristiano Fedrigo started studying in LaGuardia’s English Language Center in fall 2006. Cristiano is a here for a special reason. He won the World of Children Foundation Founders Award for improving the lives of children in Brazil with his innovative programs: a bicycle-sharing cooperative, a solution to kids dropping out of school because of the four-mile walk; a soccer school and swimming club, for students to get involved in after-school activities; and initiatives with local dentists and a physician to get needy children medical care. Cristiano plans to finish studying English and return to Brazil to continue his wonderful work.

"TELC helped me a lot in improving my English, but nothing meant more than the support I got from teachers and staff. Because of my experience in TELC, there was no other school I wanted to go to than LaGuardia Community College. Now, I'm a student in the college and I want to be a Physical Therapy Assistant."

"I really wanted to master speaking English
and I knew that in order to accomplish this goal, I would
have to really commit myself and get involved in different
activities. Not only did I study in several different
classes, but I also improved my oral skills by working in
the English Language Center office and tutoring in the Language
Clinic. The
ESL Program at LaGuardia Community College played a key role
in helping me achieve my goals."

“The English Language Center at LaGuardia
Community College is truly excellent. I took most of the
Advanced Workshops; including the TOEFL Preparation, and
improved my English skills tremendously. People are friendly
and learning is a lot of fun. I always recommend TELC to
all my friends.”

"In the three quarters I studied in The English Language
Center, I gained the necessary skills to get into LaGuardia
and pursue my nursing degree. I even got a head start
because I was allowed to transfer 12 of my high school and
college credits!"

"My English language level was
very low when I first started studying in The English Language
Center, but after two years I finally applied to LaGuardia
Community College as a transfer student and was accepted
in Spring 2006. Due to the excellent academic preparation
program in TELC, I took the ACT Placement exam and got into
ENG101. Now my major is nursing and I'm applying all the
skills I learned in TELC like writing research papers and
giving oral presentations."
